The Tamil Nadu government recently launched an upgraded version of its emergency medical services platform, the TAEI Registry 2.0, which is accessible via both a web portal and a mobile app. The launch event occurred on November 8 2025.
Key details about the TAEI app release:
- Purpose: The app is designed for real-time data collection for accident and emergency care in Tamil Nadu. It streamlines coordination between the 108 ambulance network and the 113 designated emergency centers (hospitals) across the state.
- Functionality:
- Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) in ambulances use the mobile app to enter basic patient information, vital signs, and chief complaints at the scene.
- This data is instantly transmitted to the hospital's Emergency Department (ED) triage area, appearing on a wall-mounted display.
- Critical cases blink in bright red, alerting the ED team to prepare for the patient's arrival and resuscitation, with GPS tracking showing the ambulance's en route location.
- Benefits: This system provides data-driven insights to improve clinical decision-making, enhance patient outcomes, and provides the government with a robust database for research and policy planning related to six critical areas: trauma, heart attacks, strokes, burns, poison/bites, and preeclampsia/eclampsia (PREM).
The original TAEI initiative was launched in 2017 to transform conventional hospital casualties into fully equipped emergency departments, and this new app marks a significant technological upgrade.
